Shout out to the winter babies in Connecticut: Ridgefield, Ct Lifestyle Newborn and Family Photographer;

Are you expecting a winter baby this upcoming year? I was born on the very last day of December, and I have to say that it is an extraordinary time of year to have a birthday.

This year has been the most special one yet! The year 2018 has been so full of both new and returning clients. My heart is so full, and I am very thankful for all of those who have supported my small business.

Starting in 2019 I will now be opening up my calendar and taking more bookings for Fresh 48 & Newborn. I have decided to focus more of my attention on photographing one of my passions, and I am excited to start giving my clients more options. My 2019 calendar is filling up very fast, and I only have a few spots left. I don’t want you to miss out on having the opportunity in photographing your Fresh 48 or Newborn session.

I have a couple of openings for newborn sessions for January-March, and I would love to capture your bundle of joy! I love photographing sweet newborns and their families, and I find it very rewarding. Lifestyle newborn sessions typically take place in your home about two weeks after the baby birth date while Fresh 48 sessions take place up to 48 hours after their arrival in the hospital.

Here are a few of my favorite images from one of my most recent newborn sessions I photographed at the end of October. This baby below is sweet baby Oliver and his family. His family feels so incredibly blessed to welcome him into their family, and I had the honor of photographing their new family of four.

Fairfield County CT Lifestyle Newborn and Family Photographer: Newborn Guide

Newborn Guide:

How Long Is The Session?

-Anywhere between 1 hour to 2 hours max all depending on how baby’s mood is. Typically during newborn sessions we take a lot of feeding and diaper changing breaks.

ridgefieldCtnewbornandFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

Random Helpful Tips For Your Session:

-Make sure everyone eats before session (Mom, dad & siblings)

-Try your best to stay calm when the baby gets fussy. It can be very stressful when the baby gets upset, but it is all normal.

-Take it all in and just love on your newborn baby. Cuddle them, kiss them and hug them. This stage of your life is full of joy and excitement welcoming a new baby and I want to document all of the different emotions for you to remember.

NewtownCtlifestylenewbornandFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

How Do We Get The Baby Ready?

  • 1/2 hour before I arrive please have a fresh diaper on the baby and give one last feeding. Feeding the baby prior to the session starting can help make the baby sleepy.

  • Temperature-The warmer the room better, turning the heat on an hour before the session will keep the baby happy and comfortable. You can lower the temperature before Kendra is set to arrive to make it feel more comfortable for the parents.

  • Be prepared for breaks- The baby runs the show and will take some occasional breaks for feedings, diaper changes etc. Babies can be very unpredictable and it is totally normal for the baby to be fussy.

Where Are We Going To Take The Photos?

  • A majority of the session will take place in the baby's room or master bedroom or living room so please have the curtains and shades open to allow the natural light to come through.

  • I often love to pose the family and new baby in the parent's bed, on the couch, anywhere comfy and snuggly.

  • No need to clean, but just try and make sure the clutter has found its way to a closet in these particular rooms.

What Do We Wear?

-Start with one outfit and add-on/work from there.

-Try to stick to the Neutral/Pastel color palette (they photograph better)

-Dress Comfortably (The session is a laid back and fun shoot so it is important you feel comfortable whatever you are wearing)

-Avoid clothing with wording/characters on it

What Should The Baby Wear?

-The baby will be swaddled a majority of the session, but I suggest setting aside 1 or 2 simple outfits for them to wear during the session.

I am so excited for our upcoming session!

One day Soon You're Going To Miss This; Newtown, Connecticut Photographer

We all hear friends, family and everyone else & their brother say the saying "Time flies." I will be the first to admit I thought that quote was silly and I always thought to myself I will never say that...until mid-April five years ago.

NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

The very day I became an Aunt to two little girls was the day I admited I learned that time indeed flies by us and there isn't much you can do to slow it down.

NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

When I was growing up, I had a lot of things prepared in my head how I would think life would go and who I thought I would be as I got older including the type of Aunt I thought I would be. I find it funny looking back now at how much my predictions have altered.

NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

I did not see myself being such a sappy Aunt. I always knew that I would love to be an Aunt as I always have loved being around children, but something inside of me changed the moment I found out my sister was having twins.

  • I was/am always impatiently waiting for the next visit
  • Wanting updated photos and videos daily
  • Always wanting to facetime when driving to them wasn't feasible
  • Crying at old videos/photos when they were babies
NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

I wish we had the power to slow down time so we could absorb all the little moments of their lives, but I am just trying to do my best of being present in their lives and spending all the time I can when they are still little. Some moments aren't easy or perfect with having little ones, but one day soon I will look back upon when they were 5 and miss it all. I will keep on photographing them and be documenting all the moments I can look upon when they are grown.

NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

As they become older, there are certain moments in a child's life that we find ourselves more prepared for them to grow out of than other moments.  We are not always willing to let go of the little things such as, that they might be too big to carry, that they are too cool to give kisses goodbye or too big to hold our hands. We want them to grow up strong, but it can be a bittersweet time and can be hard to let go of particular things. I used to love holding both of my nieces in my arms when I would visit them, but as they grew and grew that became impossible for me to carry two at the same time. Now I know that they are getting too big for me to hold and soon this will be a thing of the past that I will have to look back through photos to remember.

NewtownCtFamilyPhotographerKendraConroyPhotography

Now if only I could learn how to make time slow down...

How do we prepare for our upcoming session?

I would love to share a few tricks and suggestions to help the session run smoothly! This post will help you with some of the questions you might have.

Lifestyle Family Southbury Connecticut Kendra Conroy Photography

What do we wear?

Here are my top suggestions for what to wear:

-Start with one outfit and add on/work from there.

-Try to avoid mixing patterns, such as stripes and plaids.

-Try to stick to the Neutral/Pastel color palette, as they tend to photograph better

-Avoid neon colors. These colors often reflect onto your skin.

-Try to avoid clothing that have distractive wording or characters.

*MOST IMPORTANT*-Dress Comfortably. The session is laid back and it is important that you feel comfroatable.

Do we have to wear matching clothes?

When you think of a family shoot, many think of everyone wearing the same exact color..Looks great right? Nope! Matching clothes can be quite overwhelming and everyone tends to blend in with one another when photographed.

I encourage the families to coordinate outfits. For example, choose a color shirt for mom that compliments with dad's. instead, for example choosing a color shirt for mom that compliments with dads. Choose 2 or 3 colors that you think will work well together. This allows everyone to stand out instead of blending in with one another.

What if it rains?

I have a reliable app, called Dark Sky, that I use to track the weather up to the last minute. I usually wait until the morning of the session to call it off due to weather. For these unpredictable circumstances, I keep a few dates available to reschedule.

Should we bring anything?

I encourage the moms and dads to bring the child's favorite comfort toy or book. A photo shoot can be an overwhelming for a child and having an item from home helps make everyone feel more comfortable.. I often start off my sessions with the children and parents laying on a blanket together cuddling or reading a story, this allows everyone to be more comfortable just being themselves.

.

Where should we have the session?

Location is key to any successful family photo. The location should reflect a special place, or special feeling for each family member. Your favorite hiking trail is a great idea, unless you want your toddler daughter in a sundress and sandals, so consider your surroundings, and any obstacles that you may encounter getting to the beautiful destination setting.

I've spent a lot of time researching locations. I find that open spaces give opportunity for family members to be themselves, to dance, to explore, to be silly.

*Most important tip*

Be sure everyone is well rested and fed. We can all get a bit cranky when these basic needs are not met. It is important no one shows up to the session on an empty stomach. I encourage everyone has a substantial meal before the session to provide the energy to make it through a fun and potentially active session.

Lets not forget the photo session is meant to be fun! I love to see smiles, hear giggles and feel the love with one another. I encourage games, tickles and silliness...let's plan to leave the serious faces at home because this photo session is about happiness!
